Wolf Fund for Diversity Education

History

In 1990, the Wolf Human Rights Fund was established by Dr. James Wolf and Dr. Elaine Wolf, long-time friends of º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ University. They both were awarded joint honorary degrees of doctor of humane letters here at º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ University. In 1999, the fund’s name was changed to the Wolf Fund for Diversity Education.

Purpose

The Wolf Fund for Diversity Education is to aid º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ University in becoming a more open, diverse and culturally responsive community. These funds support º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ University’s commitment to diversity and inclusion by providing opportunities to enhance our understanding of issues relating to race, religion, age, gender identity and expression, creed, color, ability, citizenship status, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. We expect recipients of these funds to be intentional about the diversity and inclusion project for which they apply, and intentional in sharing their learning with the º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ community.

The Review Committee

The Wolf Fund committee will review and determine funding status of all proposals. The committee consist of Vice President of Student Life, Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion, a faculty representative, and student representative. The faculty and student representatives will be identified by the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee to serve on the committee. All applications must be submitted via the online application links under the Application Guideline section below. These applications go directly to the Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion. You may be contacted should the committee require additional information.

Proposal Deadlines and Application Status

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis throughout the academic year. The committee aims to meet, deliberate, and communicate our decision of your application within two weeks of your submission. Given the limited availability of committee members during and near larger breaks in the academic and calendar year (e.g., summer and winter break), please allow these applications up to four weeks for the committee to convene to review your application.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time and part-time faculty members, as well as staff are eligible to apply for these funds. Please see the dollar amount reward breakdown in the Application Guidelines section below.
  • Full-time and part-time Wesleyan students are also eligible to apply for these funds. Please see the dollar amount reward breakdown in the Application Guidelines section below.

We will use this in determining approval of funds. While an individual, department, or student organization may apply to the Wolf Fund more than once in any category at any time, first-time applicants or those who have not applied within the last academic year will be given priority.

Proposal Guidelines

Demonstrate how your project will impact the campus community and/or impact your ability to grow in your understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Application Guidelines

The Wolf Fund will accept proposal within the following categories:

  • Student cultural immersion experiences through which students can experience cultures other than their own. The max amount that may be awarded is $1,000.
  • Student development, including conferences, workshops, and webinars that will help participants be better prepared to achieve º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½â€™s goal of a diverse and inclusive campus. The max amount that may be awarded is $1,000.
  • Faculty and staff development, including conferences, workshops, and webinars that will help participants be better prepared to achieve º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½â€™s goal of a diverse and inclusive campus. The max amount that may be awarded is $1,000.
  • Diversity programs for campus that include workshops, speakers, films, performing arts, conferences, and related events. This category does not have an award limit.
  • Diversity training for an on-campus program that imparts specific skills related to diversity and inclusion. This category does not have an award limit.
