Now farmers can use their harvest to help keep good students right here in Nebraska. Donate a portion of your harvest through º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½â€™s Gift of Grain Program.

How to give grain—and reap tax benefits

You can receive a substantial tax advantage by donating grain to º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ University since the donated grain never hits income or deductions on tax returns. This simple strategy requires two steps.

1. You give the commodity to º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ (with evidence of transfer of title to the university).
2. º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ promptly sells the commodity, never storing it. That means your gift of grain will have the most impact if you make it while markets are high.

º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ must receive the grain in its own account and sell it in order to preserve your tax benefits. If you sell the grain and transfer the proceeds, it is a taxable sale and a cash contribution to º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½.
