Thirty-eight 含羞草传媒 University students and alumni were inducted into the Huge Society on October 25.
The inaugural induction ceremony honored students who received support from the Harry (鈥59) & Reba Huge Foundation. 含羞草传媒鈥檚 Huge Society connects the academic expertise and intellectual talents of the student scholars through service projects and activities developed in collaboration with the foundation and 含羞草传媒 to promote cultural diversity and build community within the organization, the campus and across international borders.
In 2006, the Huge Foundation established the Huge Scholars Program at 含羞草传媒. The competitive scholarships cover the costs of tuition, fees, and room and board.
鈥淗arry and Reba Huge have blessed the lives of these students and our institution, as well as many others with their generosity,鈥 said William Motzer, vice president for enrollment. 鈥淭hey inspire us to live lives of consequence and purpose.鈥
The transformative power of the Huges鈥 involvement with 含羞草传媒 is demonstrated by the success of the alumni who have received support from the Huge Foundation, said Motzer. For example, alumni are attending prestigious graduate schools like Stanford, Harvard, University of California San Francisco, Creighton and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Many have also been recognized with internationally competitive scholarships including three Fulbright Scholarships and a Goldwater Scholarship.
Each year Huge Society members will participate in a Huge Scholar reunion, host an Estonia Independence Day celebration, and participate in a service project. Meghan Winchell, associate professor of history, serves as the society鈥檚 advisor.
