º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ University students are joining Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the Nebraska State Patrol, and Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman in the “tie one on for safety campaign.â€
º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ student body president Denny Vaggalis joined representatives from UNL, state government and MADD at a press conference on December 8 when Gov. Heineman announced a special enforcement to remove impaired drivers from the road.
º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ kicked off a similar campaign later that day when students age 21 years and older received a gift card in their student mailboxes with a reminder to stay safe during the holiday season. Students who received a gift card are encouraged to give the gift card to a friend or relative and offer to be their designated driver.
This week, students will also find a top ten list in Great Hall. That list includes fun but realistic reasons why it’s important to use a designated driver if you choose to drink.
Top Ten Reason to Find a Designate Driver:
- Nebraska winters aren’t bicycle friendly.
- Cheaper insurance means more expensive jeans.
- Having your mom drop you off at a job interview will NOT get you hired.
- Police don’t find your slurred speech as funny as your friends do.
- Criminal records are tough to break.
- Sober is sexy.
- Drinking and driving is so 2000 and late.
- You wouldn’t throw away $20,000. Why would you crash it into a light pole?
- Santa doesn’t deliver presents to Detox.
- Nothing ruins Christmas like a DUI.
