A º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ University graduate and his foundation have been honored with the White Award for Internationalization.
Harry ('59) and Reba Huge were honored Friday, November 4 with the award, which recognizes those who have furthered the internationalization of the campus, curriculum, students and faculty.
For several years, the Harry and Reba Huge Foundation has supported º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ and its students. Harry Huge was instrumental in establishing an exchange relationship between º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ and the University of Tartu in Estonia. The two universities have exchanged students on a bilateral agreement since spring 2008. To date, 12 º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ students have studied at the University of Tartu while 14 Estonian students have studied at º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½.
The opportunities for º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ and Estonia exchanges continue to grow. For example, the University Choir performed its international tour in Tartu and Tallinn this summer, and º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ history professor Megan Winchell is teaching at the University of Tartu through a Fulbright Scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year.
The Harry and Reba Huge Foundation also financially supported the men’s basketball team’s first international tour to Estonia in August and the Global Service Learning international trip to China in May.
The White Award for Internationalization is presented each year and honors John and Marty White for their many years of service to º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ and White’s work on international opportunities.
