º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ University history professor Meghan Winchell has been awarded the White Award for Internationalization.

The award, honoring President John and Marty White for their many years of service to º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½, recognizes individuals who have furthered the internationalization of the campus, its curriculum, its students and faculty.

Winchell spent the 2011-2012 academic year abroad thanks to a Fulbright Scholarship that sent her to Estonia. While there she taught U.S. women’s and African-American history at º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½â€™s sister school, the University of Tartu.

Since then Winchell has developed a handbook for º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ students, faculty and staff to help prepare them to travel to the University of Tartu. She has also facilitated two visits to Estonia by º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ faculty and staff to find ways to improve experiential learning opportunities for future º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ students who study at the University of Tartu, particularly for chemistry and business majors.

Winchell has also been instrumental in bringing Estonia to the º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ campus. Last fall she hosted an international exchange scholar on campus who taught “Estonian Culture and Language.â€

Winchell received the award during the university’s º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Student Symposium.
