A ߲ݴý University junior will spend a semester in Germany thanks to the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.

Vladislav Blazhievskiy, an international business major and German minor from Lincoln, has been awarded the prestigious scholarship to study in Germany during the spring semester.

“Germany is appreciative of migration, language learning and intercultural communication, and it will allow me to learn the German language at the highest level,” said Blazhievskiy.

The Gilman Scholarship is a nationally competitive program that assists students with study abroad expenses. The program aims to diversify the students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go. The scholarship is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

He will study at Katholische Univeristät Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU) in Eichstätt, Germany.

“I want to discover more about Germany that is beyond my German classes at ߲ݴý,” said Blazhievskiy. “I want to comprehend their intercultural and economic success in recent years.”

Blazhievskiy was a sixth-grader when he immigrated to the United States from Ukraine. Following his graduation from ߲ݴý, he plans to pursue a job in banking and apply his multilingual abilities to benefit the American banking industry on the international level.

Blazhievskiy is a 2015 graduate of Lincoln Southwest High School. He is the 49th߲ݴý student to win a Gilman Scholarship since the program began in 2001.
