Expert to Discuss Intercultural Communication and Health Care at ߲ݴý Lecture

A communication studies professor who has spent a significant amount of her scholarship researching intercultural conflict and health care will present a lecture Thursday, March 10 at ߲ݴý University.

Dr. Beatriz Torres, assistant professor of communication studies at Gustavus Adolphus College, will present the lecture, “Gusundheit! Bless You! Salud! Promoting Health Across Cultures: Facilitating Intercultural Dialogue in Health Care.” The free lecture begins at 1 p.m. in Callen Conference Center, located on the lower level of the Smith-Curtis Administration Building.

Torres’ research on intercultural communication and health care has focused on doctors and patients as cohorts in different countries. Torres has worked if different capacities in the communication field for the last 24 years including mass media, organizational communication, small groups, intercultural and health communication.

She has 10 years of teaching experience at colleges in Argentina and the United States. Torres is currently working on the second season of her radio soap opera “Tests of Destiny: Stories of Love, Pain and Healing.” The entertainment education health project is a soap opera based on a real-life story that is followed by dialogue about health issues presented in the episodes.

Torres’ lecture will be presented by ߲ݴý’s University’s Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honorary and the Communication Studies Department.
