Susie Millar, great-granddaughter of a Titanic victim, will share her family's story at a March 31 presentation.

߲ݴý University will mark the upcoming 102nd anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic with a community presentation featuring a journalist, author and descendant of one of the ship’s victims.

Susie Millar will present “Tommy Millar and the Two Pennies: The Story of a Belfast Engineer and His Titanic Adventure” on Monday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m. in Olin B Lecture Hall.

Millar is the great-granddaughter of Thomas Millar who worked in Harland & Wolff on the construction of the Titanic and sailed aboard the ship as an engineer on its fateful maiden voyage to New York in April 1912.

Millar now runs Titanic Tours Belfast, the only tour in Belfast guided by a direct descendant of a crew member. Millar is a freelance journalist for BBC Northern Ireland and previously worked as a broadcast journalist for UTV in Ireland. In 2011 she published the book “The Two Pennies,” which tells the story of the Millar family and their connections to the Titanic.

Millar’s visit is part of the Belfast Titanic Society-߲ݴý University partnership, established last year through the university’s Student-Faculty Collaborative Research Grant.

The presentation is free and open to the public. A book signing of “The Two Pennies” will follow the presentation. Olin B Lecture Hall is located one block east of 50th Street and St. Paul Ave.
